Probably one of the most important features of the Greek mythology was the Trojan War. Here I will try to tell you some information I know about it.
The Trojan war began, when three goddesses had an argument about who the most beautiful was. The theree goddesses were Athens, Aphrodite and Hera. They asked a shepherd, called Paris, whom he thinks the most beautiful. Every goddess promised him something, for naming her. Aphrodite promised him Helena, whom was concerned the most beautiful woman in whole Greece, but also was the wife of Menelaus. Paris chose Aphrodite and she helped him kidnap Helen. This how a war, which continued nine years as the Oracle had foretold. A lot of casualties were given, but the Greeks remained adamant and eventually effaced Troy, with the help of the famous Trojan Horse! During the war, Troy was favored by Hera and Apollo and the Greeks were favored by Athens and Thetis.
Most popular characters:
Achilles - The strongest and bravest Greek of all. His mother was the goddess Thetis. When Achilles was still an infant, her mother dipped him in the waters of the river Styx, holding him for his heel. The water made him invinsible. His only weak spot was his heel. The gods fortold Thetis that Achilles was going to die during the Trojan war, so she tried to hide him on an island, dressed as a woman, but he was found by Menelaus, who used an artifice. Achilles died killed by Paris, who was helped by Apollo. Before he died Achilles slaughtered Troy's greatest hero - Hector.
Hector - The greatest Trojan hero and a Trojan prince. He was killed by the Achilles and his body was dragged around Troy and then left at the mercy of the wolves. He was eventually buried by his father - Priam, who went to Achilles and asked for his sons's body. He was avenged by his brother Paris.
Odysseus - A Greek king who was one of the first to join the Greeks in their battle against Troy. His adventures are described more thoroughly in Homer's Odysseus.
Ajax - A Greek hero, a very good friend of Achilles. After the death of Achilles the Greek leaders gave Odysseus Achilles's weapons and armors. Ajax became really angry and wanted vengeance. During the night he killed a flock of sheep, believing that he was killing the Greek leaders. When he understood his mistake he killed himself, because he couldnt bare the shame. (The credits about the info about Ajax should go to Guy Josselyne.)
